L-type lectin receptor kinases; new forces in plant immunity. These receptor-like kinases coined as LecRKs are plant-specific transmembrane proteins with an extracellular legume type lectin domain and an intracellular kinase domain. Each plant species has multiple LecRKs, several of which function in immunity against pathogens, including Phytophthora. Boosting LecRK expression can enhance disease resistance and as such it is worth to further exploit LecRKs in breeding.
